(PressZoom.com) - An annual tradition in New York is the St. Patrick's Day Parade beginning today at 11 am at 44st street. The famed FDNY Emerald Society Pipes will lead the parade this year again after not fronting it in 2007 due to issues with some members reportedly being intoxicated.
The forecast today is for clouds and a temperature of 39 degrees at the start of the event. Mayor Michael Bloomberg will host a breakfast early on Monday morning with a mass being celebrated at St Patrick's Cathedral at 8 am.
"St Patrick's Day is one of the most celebrated events in the year and dates back to the remembering of the famous St Patrick from Irish History." said Ted Lewer of M4a.com.
Although a day to celebrate, many New York politicians who attend this parade will skip it this year due to the inauguration of the new Governor of New York. After the scandal involving Eliot Spitzer, the new Governor wll be David Patterson, the first African-American and legally blind person to lead the state as Governor.
