(PressZoom.com) - A $48,000 Brumby Government grant will help a Shepparton business expand its operations and create 25 full-time jobs.

Regional and Rural Development Minister Jacinta Allan said the Brumby Government would provide funding to Rubicon Systems to help train staff on new machinery and manufacturing techniques at its Shepparton base.

“The Brumby Government is taking action to support regional and rural businesses and improve their growth opportunities,” Ms Allan said.

“Rubicon Systems provides technology for the irrigation industry and has developed a world-renowned water saving system to control water flow in open irrigation channels.

“The technology has widespread appeal across the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District – which is gearing up for a major upgrade of irrigation infrastructure under the Brumby Government’s Food Bowl Modernisation Project.

“The Food Bowl Modernisation Project involves an investment of $2 billion to modernise outdated irrigation infrastructure that will help generate water savings of 425 gigalitres each year.”

Ms Allan said the Food Bowl Modernisation Project was expected to increase demand for the production of Rubicon’s water channel control gates and provide further opportunities for the company to develop the skills of its Shepparton workforce.

The Food Bowl Modernisation early works program will see 1000 automated gates installed in major channels in the Goulburn-Murray Irrigation District by the end of 2008.

“This is a positive story about generating jobs and improving skills in a community that has been affected by prolonged drought.

“Rubicon Systems will also be investing $3.7 million in the expansion of its Shepparton manufacturing operation,” Ms Allan said.

Member for Northern Victoria Kaye Darveniza MLC said the Brumby Government grant was being provided through the Community Regional Industry Skills Program (CRISP).

“The Brumby Government’s Community Regional Industry Skills Program (CRISP) initiative was established to boost regional skills and address local skills shortages,” Ms Darveniza said.
