(PressZoom) - A $2 million Brumby Government grant will help create a major freight and logistics centre in Mooroopna.
Regional and Rural Development Minister Jacinta Allan said the development of a Goulburn Valley Freight and Logistics Centre would significantly boost domestic and international export opportunities for the surrounding business community.
“The Brumby Government is taking action to support and develop regional and rural communities and boost their economic opportunities,” said Ms Allan.
“This landmark development will also help Greater Shepparton City Council attract new transport, distribution and logistics related companies to the region.
“This Shepparton development is part of the Brumby Government’s commitment to building a state-wide network of transport and logistic terminals to increase commercial and economic benefits to local industry and to improve access to national freight corridors.”
Member for Northern Victoria Kaye Darveniza MLC said the first three stages of the project would boost the local economy by $55 million and create 475 full-time jobs.
“Greater Shepparton City Council has already begun negotiating with a number of Goulburn Valley food exporters about setting-up warehousing and distribution operations within the freight centre,” Ms Darveniza said.
“This vital development will not only help local businesses improve supply chains, but also boost their global export opportunities.”
Ms Allan said the Brumby Government’s $2 million contribution to the $14.66 million first stage project would be provided through the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund.
“The Brumby Government has provided more than $400 million through the RIDF to fund 192 projects worth more than $1.2 billion across regional and rural Victoria.”
