Media Advisory: Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course Aug. 4-6
COLLEGE STATION – The nation’s largest beef cattle short course is scheduled Aug. 4-6 at Texas A&M University, and is expected to attract more than 1,300 cattle producers, according to event experts. The short course is sponsored by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. Members of the news media will have several opportunities for both interviews and photos throughout the short course. A number of vendors will have equipment outside G. Rollie White Coliseum.

On Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. in Rudder Auditorium, the general session, The Changing Dynamics of the Texas Beef Industry, will feature discussions on ethanol and its effects on cattle operations, current issues facing the industry and challenges in feeding the global population.
At 6 p.m., hundreds of participants will take part in the Texas Aggie Prime Rib Dinner at the Memorial Student Center.
On Aug. 5, the morning sessions will focus on the latest in breeding and reproductive management. Other sessions will feature presentations on forage, nutritional and beef cattle health management.
The afternoon session will include a wildlife management session, including discussions on the current feral hog situation in Texas affecting cattle ranchers.
Issues affecting landowners, including wind, water and minerals, will also highlight the afternoon program.
On Aug. 6, live cattle handling demonstrations will be held as well as carcass evaluations in the Rosenthal Meat Lab.
