Fox River watershed conference slated for March 22 in Burlington
The “Fox River Summit–Celebrating Success and Addressing Challenges” is scheduled for March 22 at Veterans Terrace at Echo Park in Burlington. Participants will examine watershed management issues that affect both the Wisconsin and Illinois portions of the river basin.
(PressZoom) - The “Fox River Summit–Celebrating Success and Addressing Challenges” is scheduled for March 22 at Veterans Terrace at Echo Park in Burlington. Participants will examine watershed management issues that affect both the Wisconsin and Illinois portions of the river basin.
“A key goal of the summit will be establishing a dialog between Wisconsin and Illinois on many shared topics, including recreation, economics, sustainable flows, surface and groundwater interactions and sediment transport,” said Tom Slawski, President of the Southeast Fox River Partnership.
The event is being organized by the Southeast Fox River Partnership, with support from the Southeastern Wisconsin Fox River Commission and UW-Extension.
Jerome Delli Priscoli from the US Army Corps of Engineers will deliver the keynote and discuss a “Declaration of Partnership” to highlight common interests, concerns and commitments regarding the river. Delli Priscoli is the editor of Water Policy and has written extensively on the socio-economic dimensions of water and water policy
Local and regional organizations working to protect the Fox River and US Geological Survey staff will discuss surface and groundwater interactions in the basin. The Departments of Natural Resources in Wisconsin and Illinois will review ongoing state level management efforts.
People who live, work in or visit the Fox River basin area are encouraged to submit issues and concerns for the “Declaration.” Submit them to andrew.yencha@ces.uwex.edu or the Fox River Partnership’s website at fyi.uwex.edu/southeastfox/. Comments will be made available at the conference.
