(PressZoom) - Congressman Kurt Schrader today released the following statement after House Passage of H.R. 933, a bill that would continue government funding through the end of fiscal year 2013 at 2012 levels with included provisions to allow the Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs some flexibility in dealing with sequestration cuts:
“I voted against the continuing resolution today, because it again punts our budget problems down the road and sets us up for further political brinkmanship,” said Rep Schrader. “It does not honor the bipartisan Budget Control Act, repeal the irresponsible sequester or even begin to tackle our nation’s long-term cost drivers – a broken tax system and the skyrocketing costs of healthcare.
“Congress needs to wake up and realize the American people are sick and tired of us playing small ball with our nation’s financial troubles and that doing so has brought us hardly any real economic certainty or job growth. We in Congress must be courageous and solve our financial problems together by passing a big, bold budget that lays everything on the table, puts the United States back on a path of long-term fiscal sustainability and stimulates economic competitiveness and investment. That is what Oregonians, the American people and I remain determinedly committed to.”
