(PressZoom) - Plastics and foam manufacturer Greiner has published its first sustainability report based on the 2018 business year. The report details the business’s commitment to sustainability, in addition to future prospects and targets regarding emissions reductions. One of the main goals of the initiative is to halve the number of total company emissions by 2030.
Grenier is part of the corporation Greiner Bio-One (GBO) and is based in Austria. However, the company has over 20 branches in different countries –– including a North American division. On June 12, 2019, Axel Kuhner CEO of Grenier spoke about the sustainability report and described several key aspects that relate to current ecological and social issues.
“The presentation of our Sustainability Report constitutes an absolute milestone, as in it we undertake an obligation to make a tangible and, above all, measurable contribution to sustainable development,” Kuhner said.
With this new sustainability report, GBO hopes to not only reduce CO2 emissions, but also institute eco-friendly practices with full transparency to shareholders and employees.
It is worth noting that GBO’s sustainability efforts not only meet but exceed the regulations regarding plastics handed down by the EU. GBO has been striving to implement plastic-saving, eco-friendly methods well before the latest EU regulations. Preparation for the new report began as early as 2016.
In addition to publishing the initial sustainability report, GBO plans to reach long-term objectives through sustainable practices. One of the long-term targets of the new sustainable initiative is to ensure that all plastic packaging manufactured by the company will be suitable for recycling, reuse, or composting by 2025.
“The latest example of these endeavors is a shampoo bottle, which is produced entirely from recycled polyolefins. It has an attractive design and offers both optimum product protection and outstanding environmental compatibility. The recycled material for this product, which is also 100 percent recyclable, is obtained from plastic milk bottles that were collected in the UK. In fact, the motto, ‘designed for recycla-bility’ was a primary consideration from the very start of this development,” Kuhner said.
GBO is an international medical technology company made up of three divisions: Preanalytics, BioScience, and Diagnostics. The company employs over 2,000 professionals and reaches over 100 countries.
